Over the course of a weekend. you will learn all the skills needed to make your own underbust or ‘waspie’ corset.
Using a pattern that will be provided, that has been drafted by Rachel Walker, you will learn how to cut and sew the pieces, apply different types of boning channels, insert a busk fastening, add eyelets and lacing, and bind off your waspie.
We will fit the waspie to your size and you will leave at the end of the workshop with your own finished waspie and a new set of skills!
This course is for people who have some experience of sewing and ideally who have made some clothing from a pattern before, however, no experience of corset-making is necessary. You will learn the basics of corsetry from our experienced tutor.
All materials will be provided.
About our tutor:
Rachel Walker is a professional costume maker for theatre, film and TV. She has made costumes for a wide range of productions, from period dramas such as Poldark and The Spanish Princess, to West End musicals like Wicked and 9 to 5.
Rachel first discovered her passion for corsets on a burlesque dancing course and set out to learn all she could about them. She was first taught by renowned corset expert, Jill Salen and then built on this over the course of her career, included making corsets and waspies for The Addams Family musical and White Christmas.
